Bratislava, November 19 (TASR) - Judges Michal Truban and Igor Kralik meet the preconditions for the post of the Specialized Criminal Court (STS) chair, the Judicial Council resolved upon this at its meeting on Tuesday.
Truban stated in front of the Judicial Council that, in the capacity of chairman, he would like to take measures to make the judiciary more efficient and to ensure the acceleration of the court's decision-making. "I'm not satisfied with the current situation in the court, especially as far as the quality and length of decision-making is concerned. I would do exactly what I did when I assumed the court's chair post in 2015 - an audit of the in-depth decision-making activities of judges, primarily from the viewpoint of the quality and length of proceedings," he said.
Kralik stated that the level of trust in the judiciary is low. However, he doesn't think that the STS would be underrated more when compared to other courts. "With the decisions we've issued in 20 years, we have proven that we belong to the court network," he said. As STS chair, he would mainly try to strive for the decisions made to be fair.
In a selection procedure that took place at the Justice Ministry in August, Truban finished in first place. The second candidate, current STS vice-chair Kralik, succeeded as well.
Justice Minister Boris Susko (Smer-SD) may or may not choose a new court head from among the successful candidates. The post of court chair became vacant after Jan Hrubala resigned.
