Bratislava, November 19 (TASR) - A commemorative event to mark a 1,000 days of Russia's invasion of Ukraine will take place on Freedom Square in Bratislava on Tuesday evening.
The event is organised by NGO Peace to Ukraine and the Ukrainian Youth Council in Slovakia. The event shouldn't only recall casualties, but also honour those who fight for the freedom and independence of the country.
"For us, Ukrainians, these [1,000 days] represent a difficult test. But at the same time, they represent a period of our infinite resilience, unity and strength. We'll meet to recall our losses, but also to honour those who continue to fight for our freedom and independence," said Daria Korostychenko of the Ukrainian Youth Council.
To symbolically commemorate each day of the war, 300 candles in the shape of the borders of Ukraine will be lit on Freedom Square. These will be a part of the total of 1,000 candles that will be lit in other Slovak towns as well. Several figures are expected to deliver speeches at the event, including Ukrainian Ambassador to Slovakia Myroslav Kastran, who will light a candle for the 1000th day.
At the same time, footage from Ukraine should be projected on the large screen. After the commemorative event, its participants can attend screening of a Ukrainian movie in the Slovak National Gallery.
