Hrabko: Narrow Majority in Parliament Isn't Coalition's Only Problem

Bratislava, November 24 (TASR) - There are political signals from several sources that negotiations could begin to stop the fighting in Ukraine, however, this will only be realistic once US president-elect Donald Trump takes office in January, publicist Juraj Hrabko has said on TASR TV.
Outgoing US President Joe Biden, according to Hrabko, lacks legitimacy to make fundamental decisions on the war as things stand. "In my opinion, nothing will change until Donald Trump starts dealing with the matter," Hrabko noted.
The person with the biggest influence on ending the fighting is Russian President Vladimir Putin, Hrabko added. "We all know who the aggressor is, that Russia has attacked Ukraine. We all know how international institutions failed to prevent it," Hrabko said.
Addressing Premier Robert Fico's recent speech in which he said that he wishes that the incumbent coalition stays in power until the end of the electoral term but at the same time added that it's necessary to prepare for other alternatives, Hrabko noted that Fico wanted to point to possibilities of further political developments.
Hrabko pointed out that the coalition has two problems: a narrow majority in Parliament and its inability to agree on candidates for a number of positions, including the post of House chair. Nevertheless, the opposition has failed to present a realistic alternative to the incumbent government, added Hrabko. "When Robert Fico sneezes, they [opposition parties] react immediately. But they don't present their own topics. And the role of the opposition is to offer solutions that are different than those from the governing coalition," remarked Hrabko.
