Bratislava, November 25 (TASR) - Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok (Voice-SD) should face a no-confidence motion in Parliament at 4 p.m. on Tuesday (November 26), for which a special session with this point on the agenda has been scheduled.
The no-confidence motion in the minister was initiated by opposition MPs for Progressive Slovakia (PS), Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) and the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH). They criticise him for the current situation in the Police Corps, for neglecting the police brutality problem and for a lack of action when it comes to bomb threats at schools. They also accuse him of bullying investigators and spreading hoaxes. The 'Slovakia' party has declared that its MPs will back Sutaj Estok's dismissal as well.
The opposition MPs claim that the interior minister should have accepted political responsibility following the incident that resulted in charges being pressed against a Kosice police officer for killing a detainee. They also blame him for police crackdowns that have been accompanied by brutal behaviour among police officers.
According to the opposition, Sutaj Estok with his incompetent management of the sector is leading the Police Corps towards collapse. The opposition MPs have pointed to huge numbers of police officers leaving for civilian jobs and the scrapping of the National Crime Agency (NAKA).
