Bratislava, November 25 (TASR) - MEP Branislav Ondrus from the Voice-SD party will support the new composition of the European Commission (EC), Voice-SD chair Matus Sutaj Estok told a press conference on Monday, adding that Ondrus decided to do so also in view of the support received by Slovakia's nominee for European Commissioner Maros Sefcovic, although he didn't support Ursula von der Leyen for the post of EC head. Sutaj Estok promised that Voice-SD will confront the EC with positions that go against Slovakia's interests. Ondrus also accuses MEPs from Progressive Slovakia (PS) and the Christian Democrats (KDH) of supporting the proposal for financial support for the purchase of weapons for Ukraine. "Considering the unconditional support that our nominee Maros Sefcovic has received in the European Parliament and also considering the fact that, just like when approving a government in the Slovak Parliament or in the European Parliament, you can't choose between individual members whom you want to support and whom you don't want to support, but you have to vote on the whole, so in this case I want to inform you that the Voice-SD on Wednesday will support the new European Commission and we'll do it for Slovakia and for the citizens living in Slovakia," said Sutaj Estok. According to the Voice-SD head, Sefcovic has been a social democrat all his life. "The nomination of Maros Sefcovic is a testimony about the government, but also about the Voice-SD political party, which is professional and responsible, experienced, but also self-confident," he said. Sutaj Estok also criticised the attitude of Slovak MEPs from the opposition. "What our Slovak opposition, led by none other than Progressive Slovakia, has played around this nomination is a testimony of frustrated people, a testimony of incompetence, a testimony of continuing disconnection from reality both on the Slovak and European scenes," he said, adding that MEPs from PS and KDH don't say anything nice about Slovakia, they spread lies and denigrate what is happening in the country. am/mcs
