Bratislava, November 26 (TASR) - In response to the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, observed on November 25, the Labour Ministry on Tuesday highlighted that its amendment to the Act on Providing Subsidies, drawn up this year, has improved support for women and children experiencing domestic violence via the setting up of 'safe houses', with a total financial allocation of €1.44 million planned for these houses in 2025.
The services provided include immediate and individually targeted crisis interventions and specialised professional support aimed at assisting women at risk of violence. According to the Labour Ministry, crisis intervention is key to helping victims in acute danger.
On Monday, November 25, a 16-day international call for action was launched to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The campaign aims to draw attention to the fact that violence against women is one of the most widespread forms of human-rights violations and is a serious violation of human dignity. The campaign will culminate on International Human Rights Day on December 10.
In Slovakia, the organisations represented in the Committee for Gender Equality, along with other cooperating institutions, are involved in this initiative through various activities. The Labour Ministry has stated that it plays a role in addressing all forms of violence against women, aiming to develop, implement and coordinate a comprehensive national policy for preventing and eliminating this problem.
