Opposition Plans to Initiate No-confidence Motion in Sutaj Estok Again

Bratislava, November 26 (TASR) - The opposition lambasted the decision to adjourn a parliamentary no-confidence motion in Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok (Voice-SD) to February 2025 and plans to table yet another proposal to dismiss the Interior Minister again, TASR learnt on Tuesday.
"We won't wait until February. On Wednesday, we - the same parties as agreed before - will file a proposal for them [the coalition] to convene another special session within seven days," stated MP Frantisek Majersky (KDH). Together with other KDH legislators, he blasted the decision to adjourn the session. "It would be funny, were it not so tragically sad that we'll be having the Police Corps in a state of disintegration for another two months, no one will address the police brutality and there's the Interior Minister who concluded a reprehensible settlement with Andrej Babis," stated MP Marian Caucik (KDH).
This sentiment was echoed also by SaS lawmakers. MP Maria Kolikova (SaS) called the adjournment unorthodox and likely unconstitutional, announcing her decision to challenge it in the Constitutional Court. "I, for one, believe that this is a display of authoritarian governance and a suppression of free competition among political forces. What sense does it make to hold the session three months down the road, when the nationwide debate on the police brutality and the Interior Minister's incompetence to handle the situation is relevant today?" she asked.
The decision to reschedule doesn't sit well with Progressive Slovakia (PS) either. Party leader Michal Simecka called it a proof that the coalition fears the debate on the no-confidence motion and claimed that its misgovernance is leading only to instability and chaos. "I consider this day the beginning of the end. My impression, as I'm watching the governing coalition, is that they're really on their last legs," he claimed and called for the resignation of the Cabinet.
In this regard, 'Slovakia' party underlined that the constitutional right of the opposition to initiate a dismissal of a minister has been swept off the table. "That's really a display of cowardice. I'm really sorry that they literally gamble with the lives of the people because we see that Sutaj Estok's tenure as the Interior Minister directly endangers the lives of innocent people," averred party leader Igor Matovic. He called on the opposition representatives to file a no-confidence motion in Sutaj Estok every single week from now on until February. "We'll deliver all of our signatures to that."
