One Slovak Killed When Cruise Ship Sank in Red Sea, MFA Confirms

Bratislava, November 27 (TASR) - The Foreign Affairs Ministry informed TASR on Wednesday that one Slovak citizen was killed when a cruise ship sank in the Red Sea near the Egyptian coast on Monday (November 25).
At the same time, the ministry has confirmed that two other Slovak nationals were on board the ship but were rescued. They are currently on the premises of the Slovak Embassy in Cairo.
"Concerning the third Slovak national who was on board the ship, the Egyptian authorities today, unfortunately, officially confirmed his death, sending notification of it to our embassy. We express our deepest sympathies to the bereaved ones and family of the victim. In these difficult moments, our embassy will provide the necessary assistance and cooperation," said the ministry.
The ministry added that the Slovak Embassy in Cairo is providing assistance to the remaining two Slovak nationals, mainly by issuing substitute travel documents so that they can return home as soon as possible.
The Sea Story cruise ship sank in the Red Sea on Monday with 45 people on board, most of them tourists. According to the local media, the crew sent out an emergency call in the early hours of Monday. Contact with the ship was subsequently interrupted and it also disappeared from radar screens. The Egyptian authorities have reported that several people have been rescued so far.
