Opposition on Fico's Plan to Travel to Moscow: Let Him Stay There Indefinitely

Bratislava, November 27 (TASR) - Opposition SaS and 'Slovakia' parties criticise Prime Minister Robert Fico's (Smer-SD) plans to travel to Moscow for the official celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism, slated for May 9, 2025, with the 'Slovakia' party finding it unacceptable that, with his visit, the Prime Minister takes the side of a "murderer and terrorist".
"We understand that Robert Fico couldn't wait with excitement for the invitation to the military parade from his political role model - dictator Vladimir Putin. Unfortunately, his participation in the festivities in Moscow will bring international disgrace to the whole of Slovakia because none of the prime ministers at the helm of developed European countries, save Fico and [Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor] Orban, will cater to interests of murderer Putin," claimed 'Slovakia'-For the People-KU caucus chair Michal Sipos.
MP Veronika Remisova ('Slovakia'-For the People-KU) finds it absurd that Fico is going to "assist the military propaganda of the aggressor". "As the first Slovak prime minister in history since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Robert Fico will go to the Kremlin, thus lending symbolic support to the regime that wages destructive war and liquidates the essential principles of international law. With this move, Fico will only reinforce his general position of international pariah," claimed Remisova, adding that the damaging of Slovakia's national and security interests by Fico's governments is taking on a whole new dimension.
In the view of SaS chair Branislav Groehling, the visit might signal to the Western partners that Slovakia no longer wishes to be part of the democratic Western world, but rather support the military aggressor. "Let Andrej Danko and Robert Fico pack up and stay in Moscow with our blessing. We would even pay for their airline tickets. I think that life in Slovakia would be much better without Andrej Danko and Robert Fico in it," stated Groehling, adding that he doesn't even know what Fico plans to discuss in Russia.
