Opposition Resubmits No-confidence Motion in Interior Minister Sutaj Estok

Bratislava, November 27 (TASR) - Opposition lawmakers of PS, SaS and KDH jointly filed a motion to cast a no-confidence vote in Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok (Voice-SD) again, which means that a special Parliament's session on the agenda must be held within seven days. The opposition opted for this move after the coalition decided to adjourn the original no-confidence motion in Sutaj Estok, supposed to take place on Tuesday (November 26), to February 2025. "We should have been discussing his failures already yesterday. But the minister fled the battlefield instead... He had an option to stay and defend himself, but he rather had his colleagues postpone it until February," stated PS caucus chair Martin Dubeci, adding that if the coalition won't enable Parliament to deliberate on the item, the opposition will be filing the no-confidence motion in Sutaj Estok over and over repeatedly. Lawmakers of 'Slovakia'-For the People-KU coalition will lend support to Sutaj Estok's ouster as well. "We called on our opposition colleagues multiple times to do Sutaj Estok's ouster because he has no business being in his post," said caucus chair Michal Sipos. In case the coalition won't enable Parliament to convene the session, 'Slovakia' will initiate a vote on a no-confidence motion in the Government of Robert Fico (Smer-SD). On Tuesday (November 26), Prime Minister Fico stated that the coalition enabled Parliament to convene the special session on the no-confidence motion in the Interior Minister, but seeing as the opposition refused to cooperate constructively in shortening the debate to 12 hours, the coalition decided to adjourn the vote until February. Fico signalled that if the opposition resubmits the motion to dismiss the minister again, coalition lawmakers won't convene the session.
