Stats: Cargo Transport Down by 6.4 percent Y-o-Y in 3Q24

Bratislava, November 28 (TASR) - The volume of cargo transport in Slovakia in the third quarter of 2024 amounted to 54.8 million tonnes, which was a decrease of 6.4 percent year-on-year (y-o-y), the Statistics Office reported on Thursday, adding that the result was chiefly influenced by the a 12.4-percent drop in non-public road transport.
The volume of transported goods carried out by hauliers (public road transport) remained roughly the same compared to last year. Rail cargo transport increased by 4.3 percent. Other kinds of cargo transport, including pipeline transport, fell by 16.5 percent y-o-y.
Meanwhile, the number of passengers using all forms of public transport grew by 3.6 percent y-o-y to reach 166.5 million in the third quarter of 2024. The overall result was chiefly influenced by more than a 9-percent growth in the public city transport. The number of passengers in suburban and long-distance transport continued to decline, going down over 15 percent y-o-y to hit its all-time low at 33.2 million passengers. The passenger rail transport fell by almost 3 percent y-o-y.
In the first nine months of 2024, the volume of cargo transport shrank by 2.4 percent y-o-y, while the number of transported passengers was 4.4 percent higher than the year before.
