Bratislava, November 29 (TASR) - President Peter Pellegrini has met Meta Vice-chair Markus Reinisch and other members of a delegation who presented a manifesto for the era of artificial intelligence, TASR has learnt from the President Office's communications department.
The president noted that artificial intelligence will bring positive benefits to many sectors, including medicine and education.
"Slovakia also wants to participate in this technological development and benefit from it. Europe needs to keep pace with the development of artificial intelligence in order to compete in a highly competitive global market. It is important to create a suitable environment for developing this," said the president.
Pellegrini stressed the need to protect society from the risks of artificial intelligence, such as its misuse to spread misinformation. He also mentioned the need to ensure that people's privacy and identities are protected in the online space as much as they are in the real world. "We are ready to work with platforms such as Meta in this regard," he added.
Representatives of Meta stated that Europe needs a political consensus that recognises the societal benefits associated with basic AI models. They declared that a change in the mindset of political leaders to create the right conditions for innovation, including the adoption of a predictable legal environment, is necessary in order to transform Europe.
