Speaking on STVR's discussion programme 'O 5 minut 12' (Five Minutes to Twelve) on Sunday, Parliamentary Vice-chair Tibor Gaspar (Smer-SD) said that a discussion on whether independent MP Rudolf Huliak could be given a ministry is only possible if he returns with two other SNS (Slovak National Party) defectors.
According to Christian Democrats (KDH) vice-chairman and former justice minister Viliam Karas, the situation in the coalition is "ripe" for a no-confidence vote in the government.
Gaspar further stated that it's possible to govern with 76 MPs, but he admitted that it's difficult, however, he wouldn't call the situation a government crisis. The House vice-chair said that Thursday's (November 28) vote was proof of that, adding that they will continue to contest for 79 MPs, however, they need to continue to communicate within the coalition to keep them.
Karas thinks that the situation in the coalition suits most Smer-SD and Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD), who are leaving their coalition partners "on the barricades". He is also not sure about the claims that there is no government crisis, according to him there is a crisis in the whole country.
Gaspar disagreed with Karas' claims that the situation would suit Fico, declaring that in Smer they are interested in governing peacefully and professionally and that they will try to be a mediator where there are conflicts. However, he could imagine that the demands of the MPs around Huliak would be written down in a memorandum.
On the other hand, according to Gaspar, the behaviour of MP Samuel Migal (Voice-SD), who didn't support two amendments to the laws tabled by SNS, is a violation of the coalition agreement. He also stressed that Migal hadn't submitted an official amendment. Referring to his information, he admitted that there could have been a conflict of interest in this situation.
