Bratislava, December 2 (TASR) - The second attempt on Monday to convene Parliament to discuss a no-confidence motion in Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok (Voice-SD) was again unsuccessful, as Parliament was inquorate, with only 67 legislators present.
Another attempt to dismiss the Interior Minister was slated for Tuesday (December 3) at 8.30 a.m.
An emergency special session of Parliament was initiated by the opposition, which wants minister Sutaj Estok to go due to the current situation in the Police Corps, the failure to address police brutality and bomb threats in schools. The opposition also wants Sutaj Estok to assume responsibility for the bullying of investigators who were working on high-profile corruption cases, for the dissemination of hoaxes, the settlement between former Czech prime minister Andrej Babis and the Interior Ministry in a dispute over whether Babis had served as a communist secret agent in the past and the unprofessional approach towards the investigation into the assassination attempt on Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD).
In Sutaj Estok's view, the opposition is attempting to oust him because he ended the "war in the police", put an end to illegal migration and formed investigation teams to look into the Covid-19 pandemic management as well as the Donor team, put together to investigate criminal liability over the previous government's decision to give military systems and fighter jets to Ukraine.
