Bratislava, December 4 (TASR) - The government approved the setting up of a joint commission to oversee the implementation of the 2022 Memorandum on the Improvement of the Health-care System, TASR learnt on Wednesday. The commission will be composed of four government representatives and four representatives of the Medical Trade Union Association (LOZ). Appointments of government representatives are due by December 12 and of LOZ representatives by December 16. The proposal to establish the commission responds to the need to "streamline the removal of obstacles and complications in the implementation of the memorandum". The commission is to recommend to the government solutions towards the implementation of the memorandum. The government also approved the rules of procedure of the joint commission. Its meetings will be closed to the public. The memorandum was signed with the medical trade unionists at the end of November 2022 by the then government. The document addresses, among other things, the financing of health-care facilities, the increase in the number of medical staff, their training and the salary issue of doctors. Currently, the medical trade unionists are again insisting on the implementation of the points of the memorandum. More than 3,300 doctors in hospitals across Slovakia have already filed resignation notices in a show of unhappiness with the situation prevailing in health care. The doctors are also considering submitting overtime work notices. They are willing to withdraw them if the government starts meeting their demands. Meanwhile, Health Minister Kamil Sasko (Voice-SD) said on Wednesday that most of the demands of the memorandum have been met or are being met. am/mcs
