Puchov/Namestovo, December 12 (TASR) - Traditional clothing company Makyta will end production next year, citing a drop in orders and rising costs as the reasons for the decision, chairman of the company's board of directors Marian Vidoman confirmed for TASR on Thursday, adding that the decision will affect employees of both its plants, in Puchov (Trencin region) and in Namestovo (Zilina region).
The company reported the mass lay-off to a labour office on November 8. "The company announced a mass lay-off, which means that it will cease operating by the end of February 2025, following a rapid decline in orders from foreign customers and an expected sharp increase in costs," said Vidoman.
A total of 125 employees from the Puchov and Namestovo plants will lose their jobs. "The remaining employees will be engaged in taking care of the premises, providing energy and logistics services to private individuals and corporate entities renting the premises," explained Vidoman.
According to him, the company will give severance payments to all employees in line with the Labour Code.
The Puchov-based joint-stock company used to be the biggest employer in the textile industry in Slovakia. It employed more than 5,000 people in the 1980s. The company's product portfolio includes coats, jackets, suits, blazers, dresses, skirts, trousers and blouses.
