Institute for Culture of Vojvodina Slovaks Presents 'The Miracle Mill' Book

Novi Sad/Bratislava, December 14 (TASR-correspondent) - The Institute for the Culture of Vojvodina Slovaks in Novi Sad, Serbia, presented a book called 'The Miracle Mill' on Tuesday, a collection of Slovak folk tales selected and translated into Serbian by writer and translator Zdenka Valentova Belicova, TASR learnt from its special correspondent earlier this week. "I can say that we are presenting perhaps my dearest translations to date. These are Slovak national tales by Pavol Dobsinsky. Slovak national tales, like the folk tales of every nation, represent its spirit. Slovak folk tales have not yet been translated into Serbian, and that was a great surprise for me," the translator stated. The organisers combined the book presentation with an exhibition of illustrations and children's workshops. The director of the centre, Dusica Marinovicova, told TASR that the book has been well received. "We published it as part of our 'World Literature for Children' series. We'd like the book to be used as a teaching tool in schools and in extracurricular activities because fairy tales are the basis for every child to get acquainted with literature," said Marinovicova. According to illustrator Anna Cobrdova, every children's book requires high-quality illustrations. "I drew the main inspiration from Pinterest and then picked out the scenes I liked and that suited me best as I read the stories. I was particularly inspired by the fairy tale 'Salt Over Gold', which was one of the first I illustrated," said Cobrdova. lin/df/ko
