Bratislava, December 16 (TASR) - The first trial run of a tram along the whole new tramline in Bratislava's borough of Petrzalka, up to Janikov dvor stop, could take place on December 19, according to statements regarding the plans of Bratislava City provided to TASR by its spokesman Peter Bubla.
A contractor committed itself to handing over the tramline to the Slovak capital by December 15.
"The appendix to the contract is valid. The tramline will be ready for the first trial run of a tram after December 15, and we're currently planning it for December 19," stated Bubla. Bratislava City has repeatedly declared that it is doing its best to ensure that the first trial run will take place before Christmas.
From the moment the contractor hands over the track to the City, a demanding period of testing and gaining permits for the use of the tramline will start and will take several weeks or months, said Bratislava mayor Matus Vallo. During that time complete shelters, platforms for passengers, footpaths, cycle paths and railings should be built. The tramline should be put in full operation in the spring of 2025, with all construction details being completed by the end of the summer holiday.
The construction of the tramline along the Jungmannova-Janikov dvor section was launched in November 2021. The tender was won by the NS MHD Petrzalka consortium. According to the Bratislava City, the construction work faced several problems from the beginning, with the work being significantly slowed down in the past. The city held several talks on intensifying the work with the contractor.
