Sutaj Estok: New IDs Feature Major Improvements in Security and Functionality

Bratislava, December 17 (TASR) - The new ID cards include major improvements in security and functionality, as well as faster access to public services and the overall modernisation and digitisation of processes, Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok (Voice-SD) told a press conference on Tuesday. Work to personalise ID cards on new clear copies will start this week, and people who apply for a new ID cards will have them available at the beginning of next year. "It's made of multi-layered polycarbonate, which guarantees high durability, and it contains a modern chip with a dual interface that allows data to be stored securely and also used in electronic communications with the state. However, what is most important from my point of view is security and its security features and protection against possible forgery of the ID card," pointed out the minister. The new ID card also has a new look. Both sides feature Slovak motifs. The dimensions of the photographs and the colour of the card have also been changed, and security features have been added. "The new ID card contains state-of-the-art security features ranging from optically variable characters that change colour according to the angle of view to UV graphics and new elements indicating the storage of biometric data," added the minister. am/df
