Bratislava/Gabcikovo, December 19 (TASR) - State-run water management construction company Vodohospodarska Vystavba (VV) has exceeded planned revenues by almost 30 percent this year, selling electricity generated by the Gabcikovo waterworks and Zilina waterworks for over €330 million instead of the projected €259 million, Environment Minister Tomas Taraba (a Slovak National Party/SNS nominee) told a news conference held jointly with VV general director Peter Molda and Gabcikovo mayor Ivan Fenes on Thursday. According to Taraba, Slovakia earned over €60 million from increased water levels following the spring and autumn floods thanks to the professional management of flows. "VV has become a shop window for how the state can benefit from the well-set management of its companies and institutions. We achieved sales of almost €30 million during the September floods alone, when we had all eight turbines in Gabcikovo and Cunovo put into operation. We also made use of the situation when the wind in central Europe was weak, as a result of which electricity prices went up. The whole country will thus benefit from VV experts' exemplary reaction to the offered opportunity," stated Taraba. The year 2024, along with 2023, ranks among the most successful years in the history of the state-run company. Molda ascribed the excellent results to power supplies from the Gabcikovo and Zilina waterworks, which exceeded the plan. "In the 11 months since January, we've supplied more than 2.53 million megawatthours (MWh) of electricity to the power distribution network. We met the plan at a level of 113 percent, exceeding the projected figure by 289,000 MWh," underlined Molda. VV will transfer some €230 million in total to the state budget this year. "The sum includes a special levy from profits, estimated corporate tax, a levy from doing business in regulated branches and monthly VAT payments," said Molda. ko/df
