Bratislava, December 23 (TASR) - Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD), by his actions and his visit to Russia, is endangering the people of Slovakia and its anchorage in the European Union and NATO, KDH (Christian Democrats) leader Milan Majersky stated regarding Fico's visit to Moscow and his meeting with the Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday.
"Proud and balanced diplomacy looks different from what the current government and its premier are doing. Premier Fico's visit has nothing to do with real negotiations on gas imports, which are being discussed in other places," Majersky noted.
According to the KDH leader, his party won't stop at condemning Fico's trip to Moscow, but will take further action. "We'll demand that he come to Parliament and answer to the plenary for his visit to the Kremlin," said he.
Premier Fico met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Sunday. They spoke about the military situation in Ukraine, the possibilities of a peaceful solution to the war, as well as bilateral relations between Slovakia and Russia that Fico wishes to standardise. Russian gas transit was also on the agenda of their talks. Fico claims that he has been pursuing a sovereign policy in relation to all four cardinal directions and that he informed the EU's top officials about his trip in advance.
