Police: Drugged Man Driving Stolen Car Apprehended in Sala

Sala/Bratislava, December 23 (TASR) - The police in Sala (Nitra region) engaged in hot pursuit of a man who was driving a stolen car without a driving license and under the influence of drugs, TASR learnt from a police post on Monday. The officers tried to use flashing lights and a siren to flag down the car, which they recognized as stolen. However, the driver failed to respond. "Instead, he veered off into the wrong direction, where his reckless speeding endangered other motorists. Subsequently, he took a fishtailing turn towards the Vah River, his wheels slipped and he went off the road," reported the police. The driver and his female passenger attempted to flee. They stopped running under the threat of being fired on, although the man tried to mount active resistance during his apprehension. "The man was pacified with the use of force, and the two apprehended were identified as a 27-year-old man and 18-year-old woman. It was discovered that the driver had no driving license and the car had been stolen the same day in Sered in the morning," stated the police. Breathalyser detected no alcohol on the driver's breath, although the man tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine and amphetamine as well as ecstasy and cannabis. mf
