The reality on the ground indicates that Ukraine will need to give up some of its land, Defence Minister Robert Kalinak (Smer-SD) declared on TA3's discussion programme 'V politike' (In Politics) on Sunday.
In Kalinak's view, it's in Slovakia's interest for this war to end immediately and truce to prevail between the two warring parties, with subsequent peace talks to follow. What matters more than future borders is what shape will post-war Ukraine take.
"It's likely that Ukraine doesn't realize the fact that it will never get to move between Germany and Switzerland, but will always share its largest border with the Russian Federation. Who is the aggressor here cannot be controverted because Russia has crossed all the lines, rules and violated the international law, but it's necessary to pay such an attention also to what's happening in other parts of the world and apply the same standards to all other disputes too," said Kalinak.
