Slovak and Ukrainian Delegations' Meeting with EC over Gas Transit Cancelled

6. januára 2025 17:17
Bratislava, January 6 (TASR) - The European Commission (EC) has cancelled a meeting of the Slovak and Ukrainian delegations with EC representatives that was supposed to be held in Brussels on Tuesday (January 7), the Slovak Government Office's press and information department informed TASR on Monday. The halt in gas transit to Slovakia should have been high on the agenda of the Brussels meeting. "Given the fact that the Ukrainian side won't take part in tomorrow's negotiations, the European Commission has decided to cancel the meeting. However, the EC, in cooperation with the parties concerned, is seeking an alternative date on which the meeting could take place. We'll inform the media as soon as the date is announced," added the Government Office. The contract between Ukraine and Russia for gas transit to Europe expired at the end of 2024 after the Ukrainians decided not to extend it. Slovak Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD) disagreed with the move and announced that Slovakia would take reciprocal measures. ko/df
