Bratislava, January 9 (TASR) - The opposition Christian Democrats (KDH) party plans to initiate a parliamentary inquiry into the situation at the Geodesy, Cartography, and Cadastre Office (UGKK) and the National Security Bureau (NBU) during a special session on Friday, TASR has learnt form the party's statement.
"KDH is closely following the situation regarding the unprecedented cyber-attacks from abroad on the information system of the Office of Geodesy, Cartography, and Cadastre of the Slovak Republic, which is used by the land registry departments of district offices. We consider this a serious disruption of the country's internal security," the party stated.
KDH calls for Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok (Voice-SD) and all relevant authorities to immediately provide the public with information about the current situation, "whether their property rights to real estate are at risk and whether or not the state has the situation under control," they added.
The Interior Ministry reported that home ownership registry services were unavailable on Tuesday (January 7). On Wednesday (January 8), the Interior Ministry confirmed that the information system of the Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre Authority, used by the land registry departments of district offices, had been targeted by a large-scale cyber-attack from abroad. As a preventive measure, the land registry offices have been temporarily closed.
The case of suspected unauthorised interference with the real estate ownership computer system is being investigated by the Office for the Fight against Organised Crime (UBOK).
