Bratislava, January 9 (TASR) - Retail revenues rose by 5 percent year-on-year (y-o-y) in November 2024, the Statistics Office reported on Thursday. The sector has maintained higher revenues year-on-year for the eleventh month in a row. From other components of domestic trade, revenues in the sale and maintenance of motor vehicles and motorcycles grew by 16.2 percent, while those in accommodation went up by 8.9 percent. Revenues in wholesale in current prices were 2.8 percent higher than in November 2023. As many as seven of the nine retail components recorded higher revenues in fixed prices compared to the previous year. The result for the sector as a whole was most strongly driven by mail-order shops (entities without outlets), with their revenues increasing by a third year-on-year. Non-specialised outlets such as hypermarkets and supermarkets also fared well, with their revenues going up by over 5 percent. Specialised stores selling other goods, such as footwear and clothing stores, drugstores and pharmacies also recorded a moderate growth in revenues, while outlets selling food, beverages and tobacco posted a double-digit increase. Conversely, outlets selling fuels continued to register a decrease in revenues when compared to November 2023. Revenues were also down for specialised stores selling goods for culture and recreation, as well as for pubs and restaurants (down 9.8 percent). Seasonally adjusted, retail revenues grew by 0.4 percent month-on-month in November. In the first eleven months of 2024, meanwhile, retail revenues in motor vehicle sales and repairs grew by 1.9 percent y-o-y, with those in retail up by 4 percent y-o-y and those in accommodation rising by 3.7 percent. Wholesale revenues fell by 1.9 percent, similarly as those in restaurants and pubs. ko/mcs
