Malatinec Wants to Preserve Free-of-charge Visits of Museums for Selected Groups

Bratislava, January 9 (TASR) - Coalition MP Roman Malatinec (Voice-SD) intends to draw up a bill to enable free-of-charge visits to cultural institutions to selected groups at special times and introduce a compensation mechanism for those institutions that will embrace the system. Malatinec announced this in response to the Culture Ministry's decision to scrap the existing free-of-charge visits to museums and galleries for the public on the first Wednesday in every month, a move he finds unacceptable. "As a coalition lawmaker, I understand the need to seek funding for the consolidation of public finances, but I also find it unacceptable to have the first austerity cuts done to the sphere of culture," explained Malatinec. mf/mcs
