Bratislava, January 11 (TASR) - The proportion of people who attend church regularly is decreasing in Slovakia, while that of those who never go to church is increasing, according to a research project called 'Generations and Faith 2024', TASR has learnt from the Slovak Academy of Sciences' (SAV) website. In a similar way, the proportion of people who pray regularly outside of church services is declining, and the proportion of those who never pray is going up, "One of the key dimensions of religiosity is participation in worship services. When the same question is asked, as it has been asked several times since 1991, we can see a slight decline over three decades in the proportion of Slovak inhabitants who regularly attend church services," said Miroslav Tizik of the Institute of Sociology at the Slovak Academy of Sciences. The research shows that 38.5 percent of men and 28.8 percent of women never attend religious services. There is also a disparity between men and women in attendance once a week or more often (23.7 percent of men and 29 percent of women). According to the survey, 20.6 percent of women and 17.4 percent of men attend church only once a year or less often. The research was carried by Focus agency out on a sample of 1,245 adults living in Slovakia between October 4-21, 2024 for a consortium of institutions - the Slovak Academy of Sciences, the SAV Institute of Political Sciences, and Comenius University. am/df
