Bratislava, January 13 (TASR) - The number of people staying in tourist accommodation in Slovakia rose by 11.2 percent year-on-year (y-o-y) to 431,000 in November 2024, the Statistics Office reported on Monday.
The figure was still some 10 percent (49,000 guests) below the record set in June of the pre-pandemic year of 2019. However, the total figure was a positive surprise, as accommodation facilities posted the second-highest number of guests ever for November.
Guests spent over 1 million nights in hotels and guest houses in November, up 9 percent from the year before, with the average length of stay equalling 2.4 nights.
More than two thirds of the accommodated tourists were domestic visitors, whose number went up by 11.2 percent from the previous year to reach 294,000. However, their number was still 9 percent below the figure for the pre-pandemic November of 2019.
The number of foreign visitors went up by 11.2 percent y-o-y to 137,000, but this figure was still 13.6 percent lower than the one for November 2019.
A total of 5.5 million guests were accommodated in tourism facilities in the first eleven months of last year, up 2.9 percent y-o-y. The number of foreign tourists grew by 3.2 percent, while the rate of growth among domestic ones was 2.7 percent. Eight percent fewer guests were accommodated in tourism facilities in Slovakia than in January-November 2019.
