Bratislava, January 14 (TASR) - The opposition Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party is calling on the government to dismiss the head of the Office of Geodesy, Cartography, and Cadastre of Slovakia, Juraj Celler immediately in response to the recent cyber-attack and his poor communication with the public, TASR learnt from SaS spokesman Onrej Sprlak on Tuesday.
"The home ownership registry is still not fully functional, complicating the situation not only for the public, but also for municipalities. Moreover, members of the government are shunning responsibility and acting as if they had nothing to do with the cyber-attack. It was Agriculture Minister Richard Takac who proposed the appointment of the home ownership registry head, Juraj Celler. The Interior Minister, Matus Sutaj Estok, is responsible for people's security. Both of them are accusing the opposition and denying responsibility," stated MP Alojz Hlina (SaS).
According to SaS, it is unsustainable for Celler to continue as head of the registry. Hlina added that it's unacceptable for an independent investigation into the cyber-attack to take place while no one takes responsibility for mishandled communication with the public. "That's why we're calling on the government to dismiss him immediately," he stated.
In recent days, the offices of the land registry departments were closed temporarily due to a large-scale cyberattack from abroad. The attack affected the information system used by the land registry departments of district offices.
