Kosice University Collects 170 Kg of Wax for Ukraine to Produce Trench Candles

Kosice, January 14 (TASR) - The Pavol Jozef Safarik University (UPJS) in Kosice managed to collect more than 170 kg of wax in a fundraiser to help inhabitants of Ukraine, afflicted by the war, TASR learnt from UPJS spokesperson Laura Holanova on Tuesday. The wax will be used for the production of trench candles to provide the people with light and warmth in areas without electricity. The fundraiser was held in November and December 2024, with university employees and students encouraged to collect wax from new or used candles. "In the second year of the project, we registered enormous public interest, for which I'd like to offer gratitude on behalf of the entire university," said UPJS pro-rector for science and research Renata Orinakova. The collected wax will be transported on Wednesday (January 15) to Ukraine's Uzhhorod to nuns of the Congregatio Jesu. mf/mcs
