Bratislava, January 14 (TASR) - M.R. Stefanik Airport in Bratislava processed over 1.9 million passengers on both departures and arrivals last year, which is 7 percent more than in 2023, TASR learnt from airport spokesperson Veronika Demovicova on Tuesday.
The most popular destinations were Antalya, London and Milan-Bergamo. The number of flights rose by 6 percent year-on-year (y-o-y) to 28,000 in 2024.
"With 1.948 million passengers handled, we posted the fifth highest number of passengers processed in one calendar year in the airport's history. We processed 134,348 passengers more than in the previous year," said airport's general director Dusan Novoty, adding that the airport handled over 1.8 million passengers in 2023.
Novota ascribed the growth in the passenger number to a successful holiday season, direct flights from Bratislava to exotic destinations and a new airline, Pegasus Airlines, offering regular flights from Bratislava to Istanbul and Antalya.
In terms of the number of passengers carried, the most popular flight destinations were Antalya and London, with over 200,000 people being processed on both of them. These were followed by Milan, Hurghada and Skopje. In the summer season, passengers could use 39 regular lines and 40 charter lines from Bratislava. During the 2024/2025 winter season, 19 regular lines and 12 charter lines to exotic destinations are available to them.
The strongest month of 2024 was July when the airport handled 327,685 passengers.
