Bratislava, January 14 (TASR) - Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) proposes to have the special emergency session of Parliament on the ouster of his government on Tuesday, January 21, and promised in his social network post to attend the session, while recommending lawmakers of the governing coalition to make Parliament quorate for the vote.
"As one famous Marshal said before a military battle: this is going to get messy," added Fico.
As for the proposed date, the Prime Minister explained that on Monday (January 20) he plans to make an official visit to Turkey, from where he's slated to take part in the World Economic Forum in Davos on Tuesday afternoon and return to Slovakia only as late as on Thursday (January 23). "Under such circumstances, the most suitable date for the special emergency session of Parliament on the ouster of the government, which the opposition intends to initiate, is Tuesday, January 21. Of course, this goes only under the assumption that it'll be the decision of House Vice-chair Peter Ziga, who heads Parliament with temporary powers of the House chair," said Fico.
Smer-SD as a party called the decision to initiate a no-confidence motion in the government a legitimate right of the opposition, which it fully respects. "Not only Smer-SD party, but the entire coalition stands behind the Prime Minister," it added.
