Sutaj Estok: Early Election Would Mean Giving Up on Our Promises

Bratislava, January 15 (TASR) - An early election would entail a complete resignation regarding the 2023 campaign promises and the plans that the coalition laid out in the government manifesto, Voice-SD chair and Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok declared before a session of the government on Wednesday. Sutaj Estok ruled out an early election, underlining that problems within the coalition must be dealt with behind closed doors. "I'm saddened by the fact that some lawmakers feel the need to hog the limelight at any cost," he said. The Voice-SD chair also responded in this way to a post by Voice-SD MP Samuel Migal, who stated that the problems within the coalition shouldn't be allowed to "fester", but must be addressed. "I agree with Prime Minister Robert Fico that reconstructing the government and a related revision of the coalition agreement is one of the possible options for addressing the coalition parliamentary majority," stated Migal. He believes that it would be well to include an "institution of mutual respect" in such a revised coalition agreement. On Sunday, Fico (Smer-SD) conceded on a TA3 political talk show that if the coalition's junior parties, Voice-SD and SNS, don't resolve the disputes within their ranks, either an early election or a revision of the coalition agreement and a new division of posts within the coalition might become necessary. mf/df
