Drucker to Do Everything to Determine Causes of Knife Attack at Secondary School

Bratislava, January 16 (TASR) - Education Minister Tomas Drucker (Voice-SD) will do everything in his power to determine the causes of the knife attack at a secondary grammar school in the town of Spisska Stara Ves (Presov region), take appropriate actions, and implement measures to protect children and teachers in the future, he announced on social media on Thursday. Drucker called for approaching the tragedy with the utmost sensitivity and urging avoidance of speculation or hasty conclusions. He expressed his sincere and deepest condolences to the victims' families. "It's important to allow the police to work calmly on the investigation while respecting the privacy and dignity of the survivors, pupils, students and teachers who are going through an extremely difficult time," the minister stated. The minister assured that the Education Ministry was ready to provide maximum assistance in managing the situation. He said they will focus on providing psychological and other professional support to children, teachers and all school staff directly or indirectly affected by the tragedy. According to the minister, they are also collaborating with NGOs such as the League for Mental Health and IPcko. Drucker is heading to the site of the tragedy with Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok (Voice-SD). Two people are reported dead after a knife attack at a secondary grammar school in the town of Spisska Stara Ves in Presov region. The Emergency Medical Service Operational Centre also confirmed that one patient is in critical condition. The number of other people injured hasn't been established yet. The police have already arrested an 18-year-old student suspected of committing the serious crime. lin/mcs
