Bratislava/Gaza, January 17 (TASR) - The Slovak Interior Ministry on Wednesday (January 15) cooperated in the evacuation of five more child patients and their family members from the Gaza Strip to France, where they will be provided with treatment, ministry spokesman Matej Neumann informed TASR on Friday.
The Slovak government aircraft transported 21 people in total. Slovakia, Romania, France, Norway and Albania cooperated with EU institutions and the WHO during the operation.
"The patients were transported in the early morning hours by a humanitarian convoy from Gaza to Israel, from where they were taken to Bucharest by a Romanian government plane. Subsequently, the Slovak government plane carried the patients from Romania to France, where they will be provided with the necessary treatment," explained Neumann.
The spokesman added that the evacuation was carried out under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, which will enable Slovakia to have 75 percent of its costs reimbursed. A Euracare Flight and Shelter evacuation team was deployed to evacuate patients from Gaza for the third time. It also evacuated Slovak and foreign citizens from Lebanon in October 2024.
