Bratislava, January 18 (TASR) - Almost 8,900 Slovaks went bankrupt in 2024, with the proportion of men among them increasing year-on-year (y-o-y), according to an analysis published by CRIF–Slovak Credit Bureau (CRIF SK), which manages the credit registries of banking and non-banking houses.
"This is a drop of over 8 percent from 2023, when the number of personal bankruptcies in Slovakia reached 9,701. The education parameters didn't change y-o-y, with more than 97 percent of bankrupt people not having a university degree. However, the proportion of men going personally bankrupt grew slightly from 62 percent in 2023 to 63 percent last year. The number of men who went bankrupt reached 5,630, while the figure for women was only 3,261," said CRIF analyst Jana Markova.
Of the total number of bankruptcies last year, over 91 percent were declared for the assets of private individuals and less than 9 percent for the assets of entrepreneurs.
In terms of age, those most likely to go bankrupt were people in their thirties (29 percent) and in their forties (27 percent).
Almost 99 percent of debtors opted for bankruptcy, while the rest opted for instalment calendars.
