Bratislava, January 21 (TASR) - Slovakia represented by the Environment Ministry has definitively won a lawsuit launched against it by Interblue Group (Europe) AG, which sued the ministry for €34.6 million in a case dating back to 2016, Environment Minister Tomas Taraba stated on Tuesday. "The Environment Ministry has claimed compensation for court costs amounting to over two million euros, which the Slovak Supreme Court granted in full," added the communications department of the ministry. The lawsuit, in which the Swiss company sued the Environment Ministry for €34.6 million, has been ongoing since 2016. Bratislava District Court rejected the lawsuit filed by Interblue Group (Europe) AG against the Environment Ministry in December 2020, and Bratislava Regional Court upheld this decision in an appeal in January 2022. The disputed sale of emission quotas (AAU - assigned amount units) to American company Interblue Group dates back to 2008. At that time, Slovakia sold 15 million tons at a price of €5.05 per tonne, while neighbouring countries made more profitable sales. The company was supposed to have earned €47 million from selling the quotas to Japan. lin/df
