Bratislava, January 22 (TASR) - The eleventh annual festival of Scandinavian cinematography - Scandi - will open its doors at Kino Film Europe in Bratislava on Wednesday, TASR learnt from its organisers on the same day.
The festival will feature contemporary films from Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Iceland. It will be ceremonially opened by Swedish-Norwegian dialogue drama 'Hammarskjold - Fight for Peace', directed by Per Fly. It's dedicated to the final stage of the life of Swedish politician and statesman Dag Hammarskjold. "Director Per Fly does a masterful job with tension and a combination of fact and fiction in the film," said the Scandi organisers about the behind-the-scenes depiction of top politics during the Cold War, which has been nominated for eight Swedish Guldbagge movie awards.
The festival programme also includes, for example, an environmental documentary from Finland called 'Once Upon a Time in a Forest'. The first two episodes of the award-winning comedy series 'Power Play' will also feature.
The centre of the festival, which will showcase 11 new movies, is Kino Film Europe at Bratislava's Pistori Palace, where most of the accompanying programme will take place, but other Bratislava cinemas will screen festival movies as well, such as Lumiere, Mladost, Cinema City Eurovea, Kino Luky, Kino SLUK and Artkino za Zrkadlom.
Scandi 2025 includes various accompanying events in the form of professional introductions and discussions with foreign creators. The accompanying programme also features a travel lecture by writer, traveller and Icelandophile Martin Procko.
The festival will take place in over 30 towns and cities throughout Slovakia until January 29.
