Kosice Police Officer Who Beat Man to Death Released from Force

Kosice, January 23 (TASR) - The Kosice police officer, charged with manslaughter after he'd beaten up a person in custody to death in November 2024, has been released from the force as of Thursday and his colleague, who is charged with misuse of apublic official's power, will be terminated too, the Interior Ministry confirmed to TASR on Thursday.
"One police officer is released as of today, whereas the decision on the termination of the other one is under preparation," stated ministry spokesperson Matej Neumann.
According to the Internal Affairs Inspectorate, the investigation into the case continues.
On November 5, the officer gave a severe beating to a man apprehended over suspicion of grocery store theft, where he'd supposedly stolen a bottle of alcohol. The man succumbed to multiple injuries in a hospital the next day. On November 12, the Internal Affairs Inspectorate pressed charges of aggravated manslaughter against the police officer, who's held in police custody.
