Bratislava, January 24 (TASR) - Next year, a historical film about Ludovit Stur, a national hero and the codifier of the Slovak language, will be released in Slovak cinemas, directed by Mariana Cengel Solcanska, as reported by Jana Studena from the distribution company Forum Film Slovakia.
More than a hundred people are working on the film, and so far, over two hundred actors and extras have participated. Filming will continue this spring.
"Stur is a big figure in our history, an exceptionally charismatic personality with strong moral principles. As a romantic rebel, he sacrificed personal happiness for a higher cause, which is the definition of heroism understood by our civilisation," says Cengel Solcanska about the film, which has been in development since 2020. "It will tell the story of a man torn between love and self-sacrifice for his nation, for which he is willing to throw himself into the whirlwind of revolutionary changes that will mark both him and all of Europe," added the director.
The film will be released in cinemas in 2026 and will air on public television a year later. In January 2026, Slovakia will commemorate the 170th anniversary of the death of Ludovit Stur, who passed away at the age of 40 from the effects of an accidental shooting during a hunting trip.
