Bratislava, January 25 (TASR) - New regular flights from M.R. Stefanik Airport in Bratislava to the cities of Gdansk, Bari and Milan will be launched by the end of March, followed by others to Zadar in Croatia and to the Greek island of Skiathos as of June, airport director Dusan Novota told a news conference on Tuesday.
"After years of flying to Bergamo Airport, passengers will now be able to book flights directly to the main airport in Milan. Flights will also be available to the Polish city of Gdansk and to the city of Bari in the Italian region of Puglia," said Novota, adding that direct flights to the island of Skiathos will be a new feature of the new summer season between June and September.
As of the end of March, the Milan-Bergamo route will be replaced by regular flights to Milan-Malpensa Airport, which will be served from Bratislava six times a week (excluding Wednesdays). Flights to and from Gdansk will take place three times a week and those to Bari, Skiathos and Zadar twice a week.
"We provide mobility for Slovaks abroad, but we also try to use these routes to attract foreign tourists to visit Slovakia and Bratislava. We've made several legislative changes as well, we have schemes to support such airport companies, and I believe that we'll get it started as soon as possible," said Tourism and Sport Minister Dusan Keketi (a Slovak National Party/SNS nominee).
Bratislava airport will acquire another 'based' aircraft as of October, via Ryanair, which plans to transport 1.1 million passengers from Bratislava, an increase of 25 percent.
