Ukraine Takes Objection to Accusations of Cadastre Cyber Attack

Bratislava, January 28 (TASR) - The Embassy of Ukraine took objection to statements by some Slovak politicians, intimating that the cyber attack against the Office of Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre originated from Ukraine and warned that activities of many cyber criminals who specialise in ransonware attacks on Western countries are coordinated and supported by Russian secret services. The Embassy pointed out that Slovakia already faced cyber attack of DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) in the past, with the last one committed on March 28, 2023, following Slovakia's decision to give Ukraine its MiG-29 fighter jets. "We're saddened by the fact that our Slovak partners once again became the target of an extensive cyber attack. Ukraine is aware of corollaries of such crimes, seeing as it faced a similar cyber attack from Russian secret services on the Ukraine's Justice Ministry. This attack, on December 19, 2024, led to a temporary crash of 25 state registers," claimed the Embassy, adding that the basic response to such cyber crimes is to discover the source of the attack and the party involved. "Without credible attribution, there's the risk of unjustified accusations, which might worsen international ties and make the punishment of culprits impossible." The Ukraine Embassy underlined that, based on publicly available information about the incident, there's not enough evidence yet to determine the source of the attack. Therefore, any statements attempting to incriminate Ukraine before the Slovak law enforcement complete their investigation are unfounded and completely unacceptable. mf/mcs
