Bratislava, January 29 (TASR) - The opposition Progressive Slovakia (PS) party wants to convene a special emergency session of the House committee for supervising the National Security Authority (NBU) as well as the House committee for supervising the Slovak Intelligence Service (SIS) in response to current developments and warnings that might have a significant impact on Slovakia's cyber-security, TASR learnt from the PS press department on Wednesday.
"We are requesting information on the current state of cyber-security and the specific risks and dangers that Slovakia is facing at the moment. We're also requesting the specific source materials from which these risks are supposed to stem. In addition, we'll inquire about the measures in place aimed at bolstering the readiness and resilience of the country against cyber-attacks," said House committee for supervising NBU member Jan Hargas (PS).
PS wants Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok, Investment Minister Richard Rasi (both Voice-SD), NBU director Roman Konecny, SIS director Pavol Gaspar and Military Intelligence director Juraj Stefanek to be summoned to the sessions.
PS pointed to statements by President Peter Pellegrini, who warned recently that Slovakia could well face serious cyber-attacks on various information systems over the next few days. "So far, we've noted the first VsZP service failures and bomb threats against universities. I hope that the relevant officials have taken their lesson to heart from the catastrophic public communications in the case of the land-registry attack and will keep the public informed truthfully and promptly this time," added Hargas.
