Poll: PS Election Winner in January, Followed by Smer-SD and Voice-SD

Bratislava, January 29 (TASR) - If a parliamentary election had been held in January, it would have been won by the opposition Progressive Slovakia (PS) on 24.6 percent of votes, followed by the senior governing Smer-SD (22.5 percent) and junior ruling Voice-SD (13.0 percent) parties, according to a recent poll carried out by AKO agency on behalf of Joj 24 television channel.
Ending up fourth would have been the opposition Freedom and Solidarity (SaS - 7.1 percent), followed by the Christian Democrats (KDH - 6.7 percent), the 'Slovakia' party (5.4 percent), and extra-parliamentary Republic (5.1 percent).
Parties failing to make it past the 5-percent election threshold would have included the extra-parliamentary Democrats (4.6 percent), the junior governing Slovak National Party (SNS - 4.2 percent), Hungarian Alliance (3.4 percent), 'We Are Family' (2.2 percent), and LSNS (0.8 percent).
Based on the polls, PS would have garnered 44 seats in Parliament, followed by Smer-SD - 40, Voice-SD - 23, SaS - 13, KDH -12, 'Slovakia' - 9, and Republic - 9.
The poll was carried out on a sample of 1,000 respondents between January 14-24.
