Bratislava, January 30 (TASR) - The Bratislava-based Old Avion Gallery has opened an exhibition of the naive fine art of ethnic Slovaks from Kovacica, Serbia. "The exhibition was organised on the occasion of the inscription of naive art from Kovacica, which is part of the cultural heritage of Slovaks living in the Serbian region of Voivodina, on the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage," said the gallery in connection with the exhibition, which will be open to visitors until February 7. The gallery noted that the naive art of Kovacica is a unique expression of Slovak expatriates living in Serbia, who have preserved their language, culture and traditions even after more than 200 years since their arrival in this area. The paintings are known worldwide for their intense colour, detailed depiction of everyday life, farm work, crafts, customs, nature and folk celebrations. The exhibition presents the works of world-famous artist Zuzana Chalupova, whose paintings depict rural life in all seasons. "One of the pictures on display is among the last that she painted," added the gallery. Precious exhibits also include paintings by Martin Jonas, known for his characteristic figures with large hands and feet. The exhibition also showcases oil paintings by Jan Glozik, depicting a simple village man. "Unlike some painters, Glozik didn't emphasise the decorative elements of clothing, but rather pointed to the modesty of the village man," noted the gallery. ko/df
