Premier: If Zelenskyy Led Slovakia on, We Will Take Reciprocal Measures

Bratislava, January 30 (TASR) - If Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been "leading Slovakia on" regarding gas supplies, the Slovak government will take reciprocal measures, for example, in financial assistance to Ukraine, stated Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD) on social media.
"If I see that Zelenskyy has been 'leading us on,' I will take reciprocal action in the next measure, such as [adjusting] financial aid to Ukraine," Fico clarified.
Fico emphasised that the decision by the Ukrainian president to stop the gas transit has "catastrophic" consequences. "Today, the price of one megawatt-hour of gas was €53, compared to the US, where it is eight or nine euros. The difference is enormous," he stated.
"We are managing in terms of domestic consumption for now, but we'll face difficulties in filling the storage facilities by the end of this year for 2026. However, we are primarily losing huge amounts of money in transit fees," Fico added.
