SHMU Issues Warning of Extremely Low Temperatures on Tuesday Night

Bratislava, February 18 (TASR) - Temperatures may drop to minus 20 degrees Celsius in the districts of Brezno (Banska Bystrica region), Roznava (Kosice region), Kezmarok, Poprad (both Presov region), Liptovsky Mikulas, Namestovo and Tvrdosin (all three Zilina region) on Tuesday night, with the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) issuing a second-degree alert in this connection.
The second-degree warning concerning extremely low temperatures will be in place from 10 p.m. on Tuesday until 7 a.m. on Wednesday (February 19). "Severe frost poses a danger to human health and outdoor physical activities. The expected frost is rare at this time of year and in these localities, and the probability of harm to human health is high," warned SHMU.
Temperatures of between minus 15 and minus 17 degrees Celsius can be also expected in several districts of Banska Bystrica, Trencin, Kosice, Presov and Zilina regions. SHMU has issued a first-degree alert for these locations.
