Bratislava, February 20 (TASR) - In connection with the visit of Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) to the USA, the Christian Democrats (KDH) have called on him to use his trip, potentially his meeting with President Donald Trump or his close associates, to promote Slovak interests, especially economic ones, the party said in its appeal to the premier on Thursday.
"First of all, we expect that he'll try to contribute to averting the threat of the introduction of tariffs by the USA, because they would have a more dramatic impact on Slovakia than on most European Union countries," stressed the opposition party. Furthermore, according to the KDH, it's important for the prime minister to raise the issue of chip imports. This is because the Americans should now reconsider their exports and Slovakia, according to the Christian Democrats, is not yet one of the countries that will have unrestricted access to American technology.
In this context, the KDH stressed that, given the structure of Slovak industry, it is in our vital interest that American chips and technologies reach our car companies and industry in general.
