Bratislava, February 24 (TASR) - The outcome of the German elections is a warning sign for Europe that should make it stop and think about its future policies, Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok (Voice-SD) has posted on a social network in reaction to the result of the general election in Germany.
"Chancellor Scholz's gradual downfall provides a picture not only of his work, but also of the policy of the European Union (EU). It needs a reboot, a different direction from that which the leaders so far without a strong domestic mandate have been giving it," stated Sutaj Estok. He added that Europe should think about a direction that will not threaten people's basic life certainties and needs, which he views as being seriously threatened by current EU policy.
According to Sutaj Estok, the election outcome shows the entire European community that things need to be done differently. "I hope that Germany will manage to form a stable and functional government as soon as possible. It will be in the interests of a strong Europe, so that it can face the domestic and foreign challenges awaiting it," stressed the minister.
The snap general election in Germany on Sunday (February 23) ended with victory for the conservative CDU/CSU bloc, followed by Alternative for Germany (AfD), the Social Democrats (SPD), the Greens, and the Left Party. The liberals from the FDP and the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW), which ran in the election for the first time after breaking away from the Left, were left outside the German Parliament - the Bundestag.
